The BluesTrain 10th Birthday

From humble beginnings at The Tusk Inn in April 2000 the BluesTrain has come through many incarnations and many venues.

From the Tusk Inn we went to The Winston for a short and very quiet stint. This was followed by an enjoyable but ultimately disappointing time at Wanderers Sports Club.  We then progressed to Mojo's Blues Bar and Restaurant in La Lucia where we had a great run which was brought to an untimely end by the sad passing of John Harris. Our progress from there was to Boktown on the Bluff where, amid the very 'bluesy' atmosphere and attractive drinks prices, we added to our loyal fan base .

We are now based at Zacks at Wilson's Wharf, where the unbeatable scenery and laid back atmosphere has proved a popular and nurturing environment for Durban's burgeoning Blues scene.

On Tuesday the 27th of April 2010 from 18:30pm we will be hosting the BluesTrain Birthday Bash.

This will take the form of a "summit" where we invite instrumentalists from the local Blues scene to join in a controlled jam session, spotlighting the wide variety and excellence of the talent that we have here in Durban. Featuring will be (in no particular order)

John Ellis , John Chamier, Mervyn Gerchanov , Vlado Sipczik, Peter Enslin, Smelly Fellows, Dave Birch, Steve Fataar,  Ian Jones, Rowan Stuart, Paul Arthur, Dave Oxborrow, Anton Cawthorne-Blazeby, Richard Haslop and more!

Check again soon for our exciting guest band!!

Also during the course of the evening :

  • We will be inviting bands to join up for the Zacks and BluesTrain compilation album competition (see the Competition page)
  • We will be drawing the first of the Zacks Guitar Givaways (see the Zacks Guitar Giveaway page)
